Fetishization of art as a way to fill the lack of a visual envelope
Psychoanalysis of art
Abstract
In the last few decades, thanks to the development of new technologies in medicine, there have been increasingly pronounced changes in the perception of body image. Art shows us the body through the prism of increasingly sophisticated visualization techniques. Following the popularization of X-ray scanning, a number of artists began to use medical images in their work. The medical image of the body is an image of the inner body, a body that is deconstructed, which is alien and perceived as foreign. The article examines the question of what happens in the psyche when confronted with these images.
As you know, the body is a geometric meeting place for an adult and a child, from which subjectivity unfolds. With various forms of insufficiency of the primary environment, we are faced with a failure of the organizing functions of the psychicenvelopes. In this case, the psyche can choose different ways to protect itself from disorganization, one of which is an attempt to correct reality with the help of art. Whether this method is fetishistic or truly transformative depends on the organizing function of the gaze. Another possible solution may be the construction of a visual envelope in the analytical process. In this case, it will be necessary to take into account some frame modifications that are dramatically important for patients whose bodies have crystallized zones of frigidity according to Christophe Dejour
