Abstract

The one who creates art and the one who contemplates it, in a certain sense, exchange experience of living and perceiving different situations through the contact of their mental apparatuses. Egon Schiele – ambiguous, intriguing, striking ... Austrian painter and graphic artist, one of the brightest representatives of Austrian expressionism. His paintings capture the eyes, who are trying to see something more in the images.

The article explores the relationship between how the artist's personality was formed in the early stages of his life, and how this is reflected in his work, as well as how the viewer perceives the paintings of Egon Schiele. It is studied how creativity reflects the context in which the personality of the creator is formed, and how trauma is played through art, and how this trauma is transformed in time. Special attention is paid to self-portrait as a genre of painting, in which Schiele regularly wrote – self-portrait is seen as an attempt to form parts of the "I" that were deficient or destroyed at an early stage of the formation of the artist's personality. Through a self-portrait, the artist, as it were, re-creates himself, going through many stages, described in detail in this work.

The article may be of interest both for further study of the phenomenon of creativity through the prism of psychoanalysis, and from the point of view of new facets of the concepts of countertransference.
