Abstract

The present article is a review of the opinions of Sigmund Freud and his followers concerning the repression concept. It is aimed at giving the fullest possible idea of this concept as it is expounded by Sigmund Freud and his followers, as well as discussing its distinctive terminological and conceptual features. Sigmund Freud’s essential article on repression which laid the foundations of the concept of the unconscious and other relevant concepts is discussed. Views of repression are discussed held by such authors as J. Laplanche, J.-B. Pontalis, M.M. Reshetnikov and the collective of his co-authors, V.M. Leibin, J.-M. Quinodoz, O. Fenichel, J. Bergeret and his collaborators in the textbook “Psychologie patologique théorique et clinique”.
