Leaders’ inner strength
Psychoanalysis of leadership
Abstract
The article presents a new concept of leadership, which is based on a psychoanalytic understanding of the professional personality development. Becoming a mature leader in the external reality is impossible without acquiring an internal mature leadership Self and its persistent development. The psychoanalytic dynamics of internal leadership is described in detail, and it is shown that the inevitable internal conflicts are not only limitations and obstacles to professional growth, but, on the contrary, represent the necessary conditions for the origination and development of a mature leadership Self. In this case, the latter should take over the functions of the director-manager of the internal theater, in which, against the background of a fundamentally ineradicable conflict confrontation between the two main characters – the leader-manager and the leader-hero – a constructive internal dialogue between them emerges and develops.
