Oedipus and/or archaic primal scene. Wolf Man – new reading (part 2)
CLASSIC CASES OF PSYCHOANALYSIS
Abstract
In the article, the author offers a new reading of Sergei Pankeev’s (the Wolf Man) case, which complements Freud’s analysis. Based on a detailed analysis of Freud's text, the author suggests the influence of the analyst’s remaining counter transference on the choice of certain words in the text describing the genitals. The corresponding word choice becomes an indicator of the genital, pregenital or archaic level of the patient's mental organization. Based on the particular material of the Sergei Pankeev’s case, the author showed a complex implementation of the phantasy about the person’s origin (primal scene), played out on three levels – oedipal, preoedipal and archaic. The conclusion of the article presents the author's assumptions of how taking into account this multilevel realization of the phantasy about the primal scene affects the practice and technique of the psychoanalytic process.
