Abstract

It is a publication of correspondence which is proceeded the discussion at the online conference of the Ukrainian Psychoanalytic Society "Psychic Changes and Social Upheavals" (November 2020). Among the issues – modern transformations of sexuality, crisis of neo-liberalism, new forms of cultural superego. The authors emphasize the different aspects of processes, focusing on problematic phenomena of modern Western and post- Soviet societies. Both use a psychoanalytic methodology in analysis of social processes.

Author Biographies

Michael Rustin

Michael Rustin – a Professor of Sociology at the University of East London, and a Visiting Professor at the Tavistock Clinic and at the University of Essex. He was Head of Department of Sociology and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences over 25 years, until his partial retirement in 2003. Since then his main teaching work has been at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, on postgraduate courses in the field of psychoanalysis. He was a co-founding editor, with Doreen Massey and Stuart Hall, of the journal Soundings in 1995. After many years work together on Soundings, he co-edited with them Alternatives to Neoliberalism: the Kilburn Manifesto, in 2015. His own work has been substantially concerned with the cultural and social applications of psychoanalytic ideas. He is now coordinating a programmatic series Soundings Futures, for Soundings.

Igor Romanov

Romanov Igor Yur'evich – a training analyst of Ukrainian Psychoanalytic Society (IPA study-group), psychologist, Ph.D., Associate Professor of J.B. Shadt department of theoretical and practical philosophy of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University philosophical faculty. An editor of “Era of countertransference”, an editor of translation of M. Klein, R. Hinshelwood’s, J. Steiner’s and other books, a Head of Ukrainian Kleinian seminars program, supported by Melanie Klein Trust.
